Homework

Language arts packets will be distributed bi-weekly on Monday and collected the following Friday. The packet will consist of a reading log and spelling activities.

All students are expected to read for at least 20 minutes every night.  If your child is exceptionally tired one night, you may read to your child.  You may also opt to double up reading time on another night.  Please ensure that your child completes the reading log each week. This must be initialed each night. This will count as a Task Completion Grade and will be reflected in your child’s report card.

The Spell-and-Roll activity is a suggestion for how your child can study his/her spelling words at home daily. Sheets are provided for your child to complete the activities.

Math homework will be assigned as needed based on the concept being taught in the classroom. On average, expect 2-3 worksheets per week. Please also review math facts with your child nightly.

Third graders should be spending approximately 45 minutes each evening on homework.  If it is taking your child a great deal longer than that to complete the homework, please contact your child’s teacher.  Please keep in mind that there is usually a period of adjustment that each child goes through after a long summer break.  What may seem like a mountain of homework at first will quickly become a molehill-sized amount once your child develops a daily routine!

Projects

Students are expected to complete a quarterly project as a follow-up to the concepts learned in each subject. These projects have been kid-tested and approved! Long-term projects require a great deal of time management and responsibility.
